The referral code normally travels in the apex cookie the marketing site sets (kdsc_src on .<apex>), which register.<apex> reads for itself, so this link does not usually need to carry anything. The ?discount= case is the fallback for when that cookie could not make the hop at all — blocked, cleared, or a cross-apex arrival — and the marketing site now appends the code to its sign-in CTA for exactly that reason. Dropping it here would reintroduce the loss one host later: this page is a waypoint on the way to registering, and a referral that survives the first hop and dies on the second is no better than one that never survived. Validated as a UUID rather than passed through, since it lands in a URL the visitor follows and that is the shape MarketingTrackingCode stores. The host derivation is unchanged and already white-label safe.
