The browsable history filters by kind and by whether a notification has been read, and those combine freely — which as JPQL is a query per combination, or one query full of (:kind IS NULL OR n.kind = :kind). The second is what made every calendar lookup answer 500: a null parameter arrives untyped and PostgreSQL refuses the statement outright. A Specification omits the predicate rather than passing a null, so the fault cannot recur here.
