A node inside a tree already knows where it is -- its position is the tree. Sending the ancestor chain on each one meant every article carried two ancestor refs with their own excerpts and child counts: the same sixteen category descriptions, repeated three hundred times, in a response whose job is to list titles. Breadcrumbs are a single-article concern and still get them. Breadcrumb refs are also trimmed to a name and a path. A breadcrumb renders one word; the excerpt and count on it were never read by anything.
