INSERTs were failing with: null value in column "date_created" violates not-null constraint @ColumnDefault only declares the DB-side default for new rows; Hibernate by default still listed date_created in the INSERT column list with a null value, beating the default. @Generated(event = EventType.INSERT) + insertable=false makes Hibernate omit the column from INSERT so the CURRENT_TIMESTAMP default actually fires, then SELECT it back so the in-memory entity reflects the persisted value. Matches the project rule of keeping timestamps DB-driven (no Instant.now() in JPA code).
