Without columnDefinition, Hibernate copies members.id (INT8 DEFAULT unique_rowid()), so CockroachDB backfilled existing leads rows with bogus member ids on ALTER ADD COLUMN, breaking the FK constraint. Pinning columnDefinition=INT8 avoids the inherited default. Prod already corrected (DROP DEFAULT + null orphan).
