Async conversion (virtual threads) and scheduled sweeps hold a detached ImgDat; save()/merge() cascades into the orphanRemoval=true images collection and throws 'a collection with cascade=all-delete-orphan was no longer referenced by the owning entity instance'. A bulk UPDATE of just the thumbnail columns avoids the entity graph entirely and is safe from any thread.
