An invitation used to produce a board the inviter could look at and not touch, waiting on somebody who might be away from their desk. Now the game is running from the moment it is created: the inviter is white, so by the rules of chess it is already their move, and they play. The invited player gets the same chat card as before. When they open it, their window stamps DATE_OPPONENT_JOINED — not an acceptance, since nothing was waiting on them, but the fact that they have seen the board. That fact drives the nudge. If the inviter moves while the opponent has still never opened it, a second card goes into the conversation, because what the first one said is no longer true: it said somebody would like a game, and the accurate statement is now that it is their turn. At most once per game — the only thing that triggers it is an opponent who has never looked, and looking is what ends it. Declining stays available until they open the board. After that, walking away from a game you have started playing is resigning, which belongs in the record.
