chat_read made three MediaService calls one after another (the page, the session for the inside-content check, then the read pointer). The pointer is now moved on a virtual thread while the session and the authors are checked: both start only after the page was read, so the pointer still never passes a message the caller was not handed, and a failure of either is what it was (a pointer not moved is false; an exception is thrown here as before). Saves one round trip on the read an SI makes of the chat that woke it (chat_read p50 430 ms).
