Nullable VARCHAR; null resolves to sequential on every client, which is what every org had before the column existed. Plain String rather than an enum so a later mode does not need a CHECK-constraint sweep. The mirroring ALTER has already been run through KamoInitializer and the column is confirmed present in Yugabyte, so this is not armed.
