How to Create a Group Chat

Start a conversation with more than one teammate at once, or grow an existing 1:1 chat into a group.

Before you start

Growing a group is a licensed action — you need a seat that includes it. Plain 1:1 chat has no such requirement.

Steps: starting a new group from the Directory

1. Open the Interaction Center and go to the Members tab.
2. Hover a row and click its checkbox (or long-press it on a touch device) to enter selection mode — every row now shows a checkbox.
3. Check each person you want in the group. A running count of how many are selected appears.
4. Click Start group chat.

What you'll see

A single group chat window opens with everyone you selected plus you. KamoUniverse finds an existing group with exactly that membership if one already exists, rather than creating a duplicate.

Steps: adding someone to an existing chat

1. Open the chat window.
2. Click the Add a member icon (person-with-plus) in the toolbar above the message list — only visible if your seat allows growing a group.
3. Search your organization's directory in the dialog and select the people to add (anyone already in the chat is excluded from the list, since re-adding them isn't a meaningful action).
4. Click Add to chat.

What you'll see

The new members join the conversation immediately, and a system message announces who was added. If adding someone to a 1:1 chat produces the exact same membership as an already-existing group, your window is silently re-pointed at that existing group instead of creating a second one — any message you were mid-typing survives the switch.
