The window opened at a fixed 560 while the row decided its height, so at the default 690 row the board was 346px square in a 540px column: 97px of empty table either side. Once the board is on screen the window now takes the width the board needs at the row's height (chessFitWidth: the column's width minus its height), refitting when the row is made taller or shorter and latching once settled, so a result band arriving under a finished game does not narrow the window. Docked and un-maximized only, and never once the member has dragged a chess width of their own. A measurement taken before the requested width has painted is ignored. The default width is 440, about the fitted width at the 690 row, so the first paint is already close.
