The badge read "5 support items need attention" and the list marked none of them. Both numbers were right about their own question and neither was the question a member reading the badge is asking. The badge counts items awaiting attention — mostly tickets nobody has picked up, a fact about the TICKET. The list marked unread chat messages, a fact about its CONVERSATION. Most of the five had nothing unread in them; they had nobody handling them. Rows now carry the badge's own membership test from the server, so the list marks exactly what the badge counts. The two states stay visually distinct rather than merged, because they mean different things and want different responses: a count for "somebody said something you have not read", an amber dot for "waiting to be picked up" or "open on your plate". The filter follows (it now offers both), and the toolbar spells the number out beside the rows — reading "5 items need your attention" over a list with five marked rows is the reconciliation that was missing. Opening a ticket clears its mark with the same click that clears it from the badge.
