Acknowledging an alarm tells everyone else that you have seen it and are dealing with it. It also stops the alarm escalating to the next step of its policy.
Before you start
You need the Acknowledge IoT Alarms right and access to the alarm's device. Anyone who can open Devices (IoT) can see the Alarms tab, but only people with this right see Acknowledge.
On the web
- Open Devices (IoT) → Alarms, or choose Open in the alarm's notification.
- Choose the alarm. Its panel shows the device, the rule, the reading when it was raised and now ("Was …, now …"), and What happened: when it was raised, who was told at each step, and what has been done since.
- Choose Acknowledge. You can Add a note (optional) of up to 500 characters. Choose Acknowledge again to confirm.
To acknowledge several, open the Unacknowledged or Cleared list, select them, and choose Acknowledge N alarms. They are sent 100 at a time, and you are told how many were acknowledged.
On KamoMobile
Choose Acknowledge on the alarm's notification, or open Alarms, choose the alarm and choose Acknowledge. On the Alarms screen, when more than one alarm waits, Acknowledge all N acknowledges up to 100 of them with one Note (optional). It is the same acknowledgement as on the web.
Shelve an alarm
If the rule allows it, choose Shelve…, choose how long (15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, 8 hours or 24 hours) and say why in at least 3 characters. While shelved, the alarm tells nobody, and the shelving is recorded in its story. A Critical alarm can be shelved for at most 8 hours. Choose Unshelve to bring it back sooner.
Result
The alarm is marked acknowledged with your name and the time, and it moves to the Acknowledged list. When the problem ends, an acknowledged alarm closes. An alarm that cleared before anyone acknowledged it waits in Cleared until someone does; if nobody does, it closes after a week.
Good to know
- During an alarm flood (more than 10 alarms in 10 minutes at a site), Minor and Info alarms are summarised, so that the important ones are not buried. Critical and Major alarms are always told one by one.
- An alarm that raises 5 times in 10 minutes is marked as chattering. If it is not Critical and its rule allows shelving, it is shelved for 30 minutes by itself.
