Check access shows exactly what a person can do, who can use a device, and why. It answers "why can't I?" without guessing.
Before you start
You need the Manage IoT Access right.
Check access
- Go to Settings → Devices (IoT) → Access. Check access is below the list of access. You can also choose Check access on a grant in the list that was given to one person or on one device, which opens it for that person or device.
- Choose By person or By device.
- By person: choose the person. To see what an SI member can do, choose the SI member. You see:
- Access that applies: each grant that reaches them, with what it came through and where it applies.
- The devices they can use, with each function and whether they can view or control it. Choose a function to see Why?: the grant or grants that give it.
- By device: choose the device. Switch between Who can do what, which lists each function with how many people can use it, and By person, which lists each person with their functions. If nobody can, you see Nobody can do this yet.
The device page shows the same answer in its Who has access section.
What the answer includes
- Access that applies: each grant, and how it reached the person, for example Through the department or Through a room.
- Not included (by device): how many people were left out, and why, such as Not allowed to open IoT Devices or Can't use devices.
- For an SI member, a note that their access is limited by their supervisor's own access. Functions their supervisor cannot use are shown crossed out.
- A warning when a person cannot use anything at all, for example Can't open IoT Devices or SI members are paused in this organization.
Result
You know whether to add access, remove it, or change a role. The organization owner is shown with the note Owners and admins manage access, but only operate devices through grants.
If it doesn't work
- "We couldn't check that access.": try again in a moment.
- "No access has been given.": there is no grant for this person or device yet; see How to Give a Team Access to Device Functions.
