Both stay nullable — null kind means the row is an original, so there is nothing to backfill and no NOT NULL step, unlike the usual column-add shape. The partial UNIQUE index is the "at most one version of each kind per original" rule put where it cannot be raced: two tabs both missing the same lookup and both deriving would otherwise leave a member with two classic copies and no way to know which one their edits reached. Applied to Yugabyte ahead of this push, per the ordering that took binders down: the shared-lib entity maps both columns the moment it ships.
