The bar that appears when rows are selected is absolutely positioned at left 50% with a translateX(-50%), but its nearest positioned ancestor was the whole page, so it centred on the viewport rather than on the list it acts on. The sidebar is 288 wide and the detail pane 400, and each drops out at its own breakpoint, so the bar sat visibly left of centre over the list — and moved whenever either pane appeared. It now sits in a relatively positioned wrapper around ContactListPanel, so the middle column is the thing it centres on. That tracks the column at every breakpoint rather than hard-coding an offset for either neighbour, which would have had to change again the next time a pane's width did. Pure restructure: the only substantive lines are the wrapper element and moving the bar inside it; the rest of the diff is the indentation that follows. maxWidth calc(100% - 32px) now bounds against the column, which is the intended reference for a bar that belongs to it.
