MUI derives InputLabel shrink from `filled || focused || adornedStart`, and `isFilled({value: ''})` is false. Any select that still paints something while empty therefore collides with its own resting label until the field is focused: - <Select displayEmpty> renders the empty MenuItem / renderValue placeholder - a native <select> always paints its selected <option value="">None</option> Both shapes were showing the label on top of the "—"/"None" hint. Pin the label shrunk (and notch the outline) so it stays in the notch from first paint, which is what the Team Membership Status field on the create form already did. Covers name prefix + suffix on /settings/member/new, /settings/team-member/new and the member profile/security tabs, plus department + job title on the create form.
