Mail is matched to a lead strictly point-in-time: an address only claims traffic from the moment it is recorded, so that editing a lead today cannot rewrite whose mail last week was. That is right for the automatic path and wrong for the case a member actually hits — entering a lead they have already been e-mailing, then finding the Emails tab empty and the thread apparently lost. So both places a lead's own address can be set — the contact pane on /leads/view/{id} and the new-lead form — now show an unticked "Associate Past E-Mails w/ Lead" box beside it. Ticking it asks the server to go looking; leaving it alone changes nothing. The box appears only once an address has been typed, and never remembers being ticked: it describes one save, not the lead, so it is not persisted and the whitelist builder omits it entirely when false rather than sending a false the lock sweeper's auto-save would replay as a choice.
