xrdp 0.9.24 keys sessions on <user,bpp> (Policy=Default) and never reaps disconnected ones (KillDisconnected=false, DisconnectedTimeLimit=0). The RDP user is always sage, but color-depth was unpinned, so a login whose negotiated bpp differed (or that followed an unclean drop) spawned a NEW X11 session that then lingered forever. They pile up to MaxSessions=50 and xrdp refuses new logins with 'too many users on this VM' even though there is only one human. - Pin color-depth=24 on both guac-bootstrap connections so the <user,bpp> key is constant and every login rejoins the SAME session. - cloud-init: set KillDisconnected=true + DisconnectedTimeLimit=86400 so orphaned sessions are reaped within 24h (applies on next VM rebuild), and install qemu-guest-agent so the guest is manageable without a rebuild.
