Lead association swallows its failures on purpose — a problem attaching a message must never break the sweep that was reading the mailbox — so the log line is the only evidence a failure ever happened. At DEBUG there was none. That is how the DATE_CREATED outage lasted from 2026-08-21 to 2026-09-02: every insert into LEAD_COMMUNICATIONS was refused, and this service reported "0 linked" on every five-minute sweep, which is exactly what a quiet day with no lead mail looks like. It surfaced only when a member noticed the Communications card had not counted the e-mail they had just sent. Both halves of the level are the contract, and the test pins both: a fault is loud, and an ordinary non-match stays silent. Every legitimate "not a lead's message" — no participants, an unclassifiable org, an internal-only thread, no matching contact point — already returns false without throwing, so reaching the catch means something is wrong rather than absent. Warning on unmatched mail instead would drown the signal and get the level turned back down within a week.
