Sending while scrolled up into the history left the member parked where they were, with their own message appended below the fold. From the seat it looks exactly like a send that failed. ChatBox gates every post-open scroll on autoFollow, which the scroll handler drops the moment the list leaves the bottom. handleSend never put it back, so the optimistic row arrived to a layout effect that had been told not to follow. Turn follow back on at send. Somebody else writing still must not move a member who is reading — that is what the flag is for, and the reporter says that half already behaves — but your own send is an unambiguous "I am done reading", so it now returns you to the present. Covered three ways: own send from mid-history, own send from the top of the loaded history (where the load-older re-anchor is armed and would otherwise win), and somebody else write, which must still not move the list at all.
