How to Manage Document Types and Folders

Scope note: this article only covers the three tabs confirmed correctly wired — Account, Service Applications, and Service Orders. The other four category tabs currently point at the wrong backend category — see Known issue — four Document settings tabs are wired to the wrong category — don't use this article's steps on those.

Turn on custom folders/doc-type classification for a document category, and define the doc types members can tag documents with.

Before you start

The Manage Docs Settings right, and your organization must have Documents enabled.

Steps

Feature toggles

1. Go to Settings → Documents, pick Account, Service Applications, or Service Orders, then open the Configuration sub-tab.
2. If Custom Folders or Doc Type Classification shows as a live switch (rather than a locked chip), toggle it and click Save Changes.

Doc types

1. On the same category, open the Doc Types sub-tab.
2. Click Add Doc Type.
3. Fill in Code (uppercase, up to 12 characters, unique within this category), Title (up to 24 characters), and an optional Description (up to 256 characters).
4. Press Enter or click the checkmark to save.

To edit or retire a doc type

Click the pencil icon to edit the Title/Description (the Code can't be changed once created). Click the toggle icon to deactivate a doc type — this doesn't delete it, just hides it from new classification while keeping historical data intact.
