Design systems and component libraries

So the twentieth page looks like the first one

Visual drift is not a failure of taste, it is a failure of system. Without shared tokens and components, every new page is a small redesign performed under time pressure by whoever is available, and after two years the product has nine button styles and four ideas about spacing. The cost is not only aesthetic: every inconsistency is a decision someone had to make, and a system exists to stop people making the same decision repeatedly and differently.

What the work involves

  • An audit of what exists today, which is usually more variants than anyone expects
  • Tokens for colour, type, spacing and motion, defined once and consumed everywhere
  • Components built accessible from the start, not retrofitted after an audit
  • Documentation with real usage examples and, more usefully, counterexamples
  • Theming where a product must carry more than one brand
  • Adoption support, because a design system nobody uses is a folder

Why we are credible at this

Our own platform carries a white-label theming layer where an organisation's branding replaces ours across the web application, email templates, signable documents and the mobile experience — which is a design system with the difficulty turned up.

What moves the price

We quote after discovery and the number is fixed before anything starts. These are the things that move it, so you can see roughly where your project sits before you talk to us.

  • How many surfaces must be covered — web, application, email and mobile are different problems
  • Whether theming or white-labelling is required
  • How much existing inconsistency has to be reconciled before anything can be unified
  • Whether you need the system documented for an in-house team to extend
