Someone in another organization shared devices with you. This is how you open and use them. You can see and do only what was shared, until the time shown.
If you received a link
- Open the link in your browser. The first page says who shared, the reason, how many devices and until when. Continue only if you expected it, then choose Continue.
- Use the controls you were given. Some ask for a one-time code: choose Send code, then type the 6-digit code you receive by email or text message and choose Verify. See One-Time Codes Explained.
- When you are done, choose End session. The page also closes by itself after 30 minutes without use, and after 12 hours at most. To come back, open your link again.
If it was shared with you by name
- You get a notice that the organization "shared device access with you". Open it. The page says who shared it, the reason, and that the organization's devices are opening, then the devices open on their own page. If they do not, choose Open devices. You can also choose Open shared devices on the share's card in the conversation it came from.
- Use the controls you were given. Security controls, safety-critical controls and live video ask for a one-time code, sent to your account email.
- When you are done, choose End session.
If your organization also uses IoT Devices and you have the Manage IoT Sharing right, Devices (IoT) → Shared → Shared with us lists every share made with you, with Open on each one.
Good to know
- The share ends at the time shown, or sooner if the sender ends it. An open page notices within a few seconds.
- What you do is recorded with the share, and the sender can see it.
- If a control is missing or marked unavailable, it was not shared with you, or it is not working on that device right now. The reason is shown.
If it doesn't work
- "A one-time code is needed first.": choose Send code, then enter the code.
- A code did not arrive: wait until Send again is offered, then ask for a new one. After too many wrong codes the controls pause: "Controls are paused". You can still look at the devices. Try again later, or ask the sender to unlock it.
- "This was shared with you in another workspace. Switch to that workspace to open it." (the message names the workspace): switch to that workspace and open it there.
- "This access has ended" or "This access was turned off", or for a named share "This share has expired." or "This share was revoked.": it expired or the sender ended it. Ask them to share again.
- "This link doesn't work": the link was mistyped or has been replaced by a new one. Ask the sender for the current link.
- "Your session ended": open your link again.
