Note: these rules freeze onto each pay period when it closes β changing them here never retroactively rewrites a period already computed. Also, per-work-site overtime rule presets are referenced in the built-in help text but aren't in this tab yet β don't expect to find an overtime configuration section here.
Set your organization's workweek definition, punch rounding, review/approval requirements, meal and rest break rules, and default schedule.
Before you start
The Manage HRS Settings right.
Steps
- Go to Settings β Human Resource System β Timecards.
- The workweek β set Workweek starts (the day), Workday starts at (only move this off midnight for a 24-hour operation), and an Open-shift alert (hours) threshold β open shifts get flagged, never auto-closed. Note: the workweek is the actual overtime unit under the FLSA, and is not the same thing as your pay period.
- Punch rounding β set Round to (minutes), default zero. Turning this on shows a warning about the legal conditions under which rounding is lawful (must be neutral over time; some states have restricted or ended the practice for meal periods).
- Review and approval β toggle whether employees must submit their own timecard before a manager can approve it, whether employees must attest to their breaks before submitting, and whether punches outside a work site's geofence get flagged (flagged for review only, never refused).
- Click Save configuration.
- Meal and rest rules β pick a jurisdiction under Seed from and click Seed rules to populate a starting, fully editable table (federal law requires none by default, so the federal seed is intentionally empty). Adjust rows as needed for your organization's union agreement or local ordinance.
- Default schedule β set expected start/end times per day and a planned meal duration (planning only, never deducted from actual hours). Click Save schedule β this opens a new revision rather than editing in place, so a change today can't retroactively make last month look like absenteeism.
What you'll see
These settings drive exception detection, attendance flags, and open-shift alerts β they compare against what actually happened rather than paying anyone directly. Individual members can still be given their own schedule override on their own Timecard tab.
