Connect a Hubitat Elevation hub. The platform reaches your hub through Hubitat's cloud, using a Maker API app that exists only for this connection.
Before you start
- You need the Manage IoT Connections right.
- Local hub addresses do not work. The connection uses Hubitat's cloud URL.
On the hub
- Add a Maker API app just for this connection: Apps → Add Built-In App → Maker API.
- Select only the devices the platform should see and control, and turn on cloud access.
- To arm and disarm from here, allow control of HSM. To send HSM status, turn on location events.
Connect it
- Go to Settings → Devices (IoT) → Connections and choose Add connection.
- In Add a connection, choose Hubitat (under Smart home).
- In Name this connection, enter the name people will see.
- In Maker API, copy the cloud URL for Get All Devices. It starts with
https://cloud.hubitat.com/api/and ends with your access token. Paste it into Maker API cloud URL. - In Hub temperature scale, choose Celsius or Fahrenheit: the scale set on your hub under Settings → Hub Details.
- Choose Test and link. The test can take up to about 20 seconds.
- The form now shows the connection's event address. Choose Copy and paste the address into Maker API's URL to send device events to by POST. Then choose Done.
You can show the address again at any time with Event address on the connection's card.
Result
Your devices appear after the first sync, and events arrive live once the event address is in place. Every event is checked with your hub before it is used, and every device is re-read every 5 minutes.
If it doesn't work
- Events do not arrive: check that the event address was pasted exactly.
- The card's last problem says events arrived that your hub could not confirm, or the connection turns Degraded: someone may be sending events to your address. If you did not expect this, choose Event address on the card, then Rotate…, type ROTATE to confirm, and paste the new address into Maker API. The previous address keeps working for a short time.
- This value is not in the expected format. under Maker API cloud URL: copy the cloud URL for Get All Devices, not a local address.
- See Fixing a Connection Problem.
