Follow Samsara vehicles and their environmental and door sensors. The connection reads fleets; it does not control vehicles, and it does not show dash-camera media.
Before you start
You need the Manage IoT Connections right and a Samsara administrator who can create an API token.
In Samsara
- Open Settings → API Tokens → Add an API Token.
- Give the token read access to Org Information, Vehicles, Vehicle Statistics, Trips, Tags, Sensors and Webhooks, and write access to Webhooks.
- Turn on Event Subscriptions for your organization on Samsara's Feature Management page.
Connect it
- Go to Settings → Devices (IoT) → Connections and choose Add connection.
- In Add a connection, choose Samsara (under Vehicles).
- In Name this connection, enter the name people will see.
- Paste the token into API token.
- In Region, choose the one that matches the address of your Samsara dashboard: United States (cloud.samsara.com), Europe (cloud.eu.samsara.com) or Canada (cloud.ca.samsara.com).
- Choose Test and link, then Done. The connection registers its own webhook with Samsara, so there is nothing to paste back.
Result
Your vehicles and sensors appear after the first sync. Positions are read every 30 seconds, door sensors every 60 seconds, and trips and position history are available.
If it doesn't work
- The connection could not register its webhook: check that the token has write access to Webhooks and that Event Subscriptions is turned on in Samsara.
- The credentials were rejected. The token was deleted or mistyped, or the Region does not match your Samsara dashboard. Create a new token if needed. When the connection says Needs a new sign-in, choose Sign in again, paste the new token (your Region is already filled in) and choose Test and link. See How to Relink a Connection.
- The connection says the account does not grant the permissions it needs: give the token the read and write access listed above.
- See Fixing a Connection Problem.
