An AI provider is a connection to a model vendor — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google (Gemini), Mistral, Cohere, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, xAI (Grok), Meta (Llama), Perplexity, Hugging Face, or a Custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Your organization can connect more than one, each with its own API key, base URL, rate limit, and list of models.
Priority order
Providers are tried in a set order (drag/reorder to change it) — if the top provider fails or is rate-limited, the platform falls through to the next one. This is what makes multi-provider setups resilient rather than just redundant.
Cost tier
Each provider can be tagged Light, Medium, or Heavy — letting other parts of the system pick an appropriately-priced model for a given task rather than always reaching for the most expensive option.
