Choose which address a message goes out as, when you have access to more than one — your own aliases, a shared team mailbox, a department mailbox, or (for admins with org-wide access) another member's mailbox.
Before you start
You need access to more than one sendable address for the From: control to appear at all — with only your own primary mailbox, there's nothing to choose.
Steps
- Start a new email (or a reply/forward).
- At the top of the compose window, click the From: button. It shows your currently selected address.
- A searchable picker opens, grouped by My Mailboxes, Aliases, Shared Mailboxes, Department Mailboxes, Job Type Mailboxes, and (for members with org-wide access) All Member Mailboxes. Type to search by address, mailbox name, or the person it belongs to.
- Click the address you want to send as.
What you'll see
The From field updates, and the message's signature/header template switches to match the identity you picked (an alias keeps whatever identity it's already on — picking an alias doesn't change the template). Send or save the draft as normal; the message goes out — and, for a shared or department mailbox, replies come back — under the address you chose.
