The settings a new organization needs before anybody can get useful work done: who you are, what your structure is called, and who is allowed to do what.
Do these in order
- How to Update Your Company Profile and Branding — your name, logo and colors, which appear on everything your customers see.
- How to Configure Organization-Wide Settings — time zone, currency and the rules that apply to everyone. Time zone especially: get it wrong and every timestamp in the product is misleading.
- How to Create and Manage Departments and How to Create and Manage Job Titles — the structure people are slotted into.
- How to Create and Manage Security Roles — the permission bundles.
- How to Assign a Role to a Member — putting people into them.
Understanding roles before you build them
Security Roles Explained is worth reading before step 4. A role is a named set of permissions you assign to a person, so that hiring somebody is one decision rather than a hundred. Almost every "why can't I see this screen" question resolves to a role.
Renaming things to suit your business
Custom Labels Explained and How to Rename Branches, Members and Team Members cover something unusual: the product's own words for its structure are yours to change. If you call your branches "practices" and your customers "clients", say so once here and the whole product follows.
