How to Assign a Role to a Member

Note: this doesn't happen from Security Roles, Departments, or Job Titles — role assignment to an actual person is done on that person's own member settings page.

Give a specific team member one or more roles, and optionally override individual rights just for them.

Before you start

The Configure System right.

Steps

1. Open the member's own settings page, then go to the Roles & Permissions tab.
2. Check one or more roles for this member — a member can hold multiple roles at once.
3. Optionally set a member-specific session timeout, overriding whatever their role(s)/department/job title would otherwise resolve to.
4. Optionally add direct right overrides on this member, using the same Granted / Not Specified / Nuke tree used everywhere else in this section.
5. For any given right, the page shows its origin — which level (Security Model, Role, Department, Job Title, or this member) actually set the effective value, so you can see why a member does or doesn't have something.
6. Save.

What you'll see

Member-level overrides are the most specific level in the waterfall — they win over anything set by role, department, or job title. See Security Roles Explained for the full precedence order.
