A site mode is the state a site is in. Every site starts in Occupied. The built-in modes are Occupied, Away, Night and Holiday, and your organization can add its own. Automations can read a site's mode and change it.
Why modes exist
Instead of repeating "if everyone has left" in ten automations, one automation changes the site to Away, and the others simply say "only if the site is Away". Changing when a site becomes Away then changes it everywhere.
Seeing and changing a mode
- The Overview shows each site's mode, for example "Main office is in Occupied". So does a site on the Spaces tab.
- To change it, you need the Manage IoT Automations right. Choose the mode where it is shown, or open Devices (IoT) → Automations → Site modes and choose a mode next to the site.
- A mode changes only when a person or an automation changes it. Holiday is not set by itself on public holidays.
Using modes in automations
- To read a mode: under Only if, add When the site is in a mode.
- To react to a change: under When, add When the site mode changes, with Changed from and Changed to.
- To change a mode: under Then, add Change the site mode. For (minutes) makes the change temporary. When the time is up, the site goes to the mode chosen in Then go back to; if you leave that choice as it is, the site goes back to Occupied.
Your own modes
On the Site modes tab, under Modes, fill in a Short name and the Name people will see, then choose Add mode. The short name uses capital letters, digits and underscores, starts with a letter, is 2 to 40 characters long, and cannot be changed later. Built-in modes cannot be removed. You can Remove your own mode only when no site is in it and no automation uses it; otherwise you are told which sites and automations still use it.
Good to know
- Every mode change is recorded in the activity log, with who or which automation made it.
- A schedule can run on Holidays. Holidays are known for sites in the United States only.
