The one mistake worth avoiding
When you create an event, the calendar it goes on is picked for you — and the organization-wide calendar is often first in the list. An event created there is visible to everyone. If you meant it to be yours, change the calendar before you save, not after.
Times and time zones
Every time you see is shown in your own time zone, which comes from your profile rather than from your computer. If events look an hour out, that's the first thing to check — How to Set Your Calendar Preferences covers it.
